Distractions are such sneaky little boogers! They disguise themselves so well that we take the bait without ever having seen the hook.

I was always ready and willing to show up for some fight. All in the name of injustice. At work I was taking up for a coworker that was being bullied by the sales team. In my relationships, I was trying to right bad behavior. With my family, I was forever defending my reactions. And personally, I fought depression, body dysmorphia and flailing finances.

I was sidetracked by distractions all the time. Until I saw them for what they were - a pattern. I always seemed to be fighting, and this took up so much of my energy that I didn't have time to grow and expand.

I was at the crossroads of choice. Do I continue to fight any and everything that came my way? Or do I discern - Is this a Distraction or My Destination?

- For work, I decided the office politics were a distraction. No one put me in charge. Therefore I had no authority to make any changes. I stuck to excellent client service and left the rest alone.
- For my relationships, I decided if someone could not hear how their behavior hurt me, they were no longer a part of my inner circle. This was a privilege, not something I needed to explain.
- For my family, I stopped trying to be right and decided to just be happy. I gave us all the space to just show up how we wanted to, and now we are in the best place we've ever been!
- As for my personal problems, I took ownership and responsibility for my feelings by way of my thoughts. Our thoughts create our feelings which create our actions. If you want your actions to change, take a look at the thoughts that are fueling them.

Do you see a pattern in your life that you'd like to change?
Acknowledge how you feel.
Discover the root thought.
Ask for the help you need.
Commit to making a change.
And when you are triggered again, remind yourself: "This is a Distraction from my Destination!"

As Tony Robbins says, “the only reason you don't have the things that you say you want in life, is because of the story that you tell yourself about why you can't have it.”

We all have stories. It's a natural part of being alive, and perfectly normal. What most folks don't realize is that we have creative control over our storylines.  I was definitely one of these people!

For years I saw life as happening to me. I was at the beck and call of whatever showed up at my doorstep, and to say it was erratic is an understatement. I was in a constant whirlwind of emotions, fighting life each step of the way. Cliff Notes: I do not recommend this route.

What I discovered is that your outside world is a reflection of your inner state of mind. So any change I wanted to see had to begin with me. I could no longer deny I was the common denominator to all my life's drama, and when I took responsibility for my internal chaos, my day to day life followed suit.

What helped me was taking myself out of the storyline. By redefining my role as the creator of my story, instead of the victim of life, it allowed me to see my mind for what it truly was - the universe's  creative collaborator.  As creative director, I changed the narrative of my storylines and the universe supported my new thoughts by bringing new scenes.

You can rewrite your scenes too!
- Decide to be happy right now - not only if and when your circumstances change.
- Focus on what you do want - instead of focusing on the lack of it.
- Honor your emotions - and use them as a compass back to your thoughts.

Daily Practices to support these shifts:
- Attitude of gratitude - for what you already have been gifted.
- Affirm & Visualize your manifestations - as if they've already happened.
- Meditate to quiet your mind - so you can shift the thoughts that don't serve you.
- Live with intention by setting goals - instead of waiting for life to happen for you.

In this life of duality, you always have an opportunity to see things from a different perspective. You can always begin again. Be brave enough to be the gatekeeper of your thoughts. Take back your creative control. Rewrite those storylines. It may not always be easy, but I promise you it will be worth it!
