My passion is to teach children life skills that foster self-confidence. With self-confidence children can learn how to
make decisions without peer pressure playing a role. They learn how to handle the
unexpected turns in life. They are taught how to take responsibility for creating their own life.
They are children who believe in themselves and follow their dreams.
It was well into my thirties until I learned these important skill sets. From a very early age I felt like I didn't belong and something was wrong with me. I know now I am an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) but at the time I didn't know this label nor did I understand it. Because I was so sensitive, it led to years of bullying and being made fun of. As I grew, so did my lack of confidence.
Fate has a habit of leading us in ways we don’t often expect. That is exactly what happened to me when I embarked on a healing journey to find out what was "wrong" with me. I started reading self-help books. I learned that I had to take responsibility and ownership for my part in these challenges. I had to look at my belief system to discover how I attracted these life circumstances.
My negative relationships and my outside life were never going to change unless I changed my inside life.
As I shifted my internal dialogue, how I felt on the inside, my outside world followed suit. Ironically what I discovered was that nothing was wrong with me at all. I held the power all along to change how I felt about myself, once I found tools for personal transformation.
My life has been completely changed, to say the least. As a result, I was guided to teach others what I’d learned so no one has to suffer again as I did. I knew I wanted to help others, so I got certified as a Life Coach. I had a wonderful coaching business focusing on adults for 5 years. Even though I loved my work, I was feeling restless until one day I found a quote that explained it all by
Fredrick Douglas: “It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
As a result, I began to wonder why we weren't teaching kids early about their personal power. Why was professional development geared towards adults when we develop our core beliefs and self-worth in our formative years? How are we teaching our children resilience? Do they know how perfectly made they are? And that their potential is through the roof? That they are each uniquely made and don’t need to compare themselves to one another?
My healing journey led let me to my life’s purpose – to teach children life skills that foster self-confidence.
I want to teach them early about personal power. When children learn how to use the power of their minds and the power of their thoughts to achieve their goals, they can maneuver through life's ups and downs.
Most importantly, they learn to turn obstacles into growth opportunities.
To heal and harness self-confidence in our adults of tomorrow is my honor.
